cost of food

Have you ever looked at the USDA website to find what the "cost of food" in your area is? I have looked at the thrifty alaska plan and I definitely go over it. I would like to see how close I can get to their estimated cost.
Do you think your family is on the thrifty or moderate plan? What do you think of their free cookbook? Some of these things I already do. I do use powdered milk. I do buy fruit and vegetables in season. I do buy economy amounts if possible. I wonder if the plan for Alaska is rural or urban. That would make a difference.

  1. We live in rural IL (the southern part) and I am almost always around the thrifty budget allowance. However, we generally have free meat from deer and butchering, etc. so I figure I am probably closer to the median for our family. It is interesting though. Looking forward to getting to know you better.
