a winter harvest- sprouts

I am trying to avoid the supermarket. The items I buy from my the organic co-op, the raw milk co-op and my husband's hunting and fishing frozen meats help immensely. Still there is the issue of fresh greens. That is where the sprouts come in. For pennies on the dollar you can have all the fresh greens you want. Here are some mung bean sprouts that took three days to grow, Four days if you count the overnight soak. I recieved these two sprouters thanks to an inquiry on freecycle. I recieved a third sprouter that will be used for alfalfa sprouts. Tonight we are having stir-fry ginger venison with sprouts and onions over brown rice. Yum yum.

  1. Mung Sprouts. I have never heard of this, but it sounds wonderful. Where do you get the beans/seeds? Are they tasty alone in a dish? My children looove veggies, but they are so pricy right now. Great idea! A fellow PW list friend down in Washington...Jenn

  2. yes they are wonderfully tasty- sauteed with some meat and or nuts.. I really like them with a sprinkle or braggs liquid aminos. Very economical.
